Squat Like A Chicken..

DAY 224

“There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept.” ~ Ansel Adams

“I’ve experienced many terrible things in my life, a few of which actually happened.” – Mark Twain

Another clinic day! I had great experiences that I can now add to my massage learning process. Met some great people, including one Cynthia Loving from Loving Scents! My teacher has talked about her for the longest time and it was a pleasure to finally meet her! And of course buy things! I think my neatest purchase was that of a necklace made in Taiwan by disabled women. It is gorgeous! Just look at the picture!

Also today, I finally listened to all of Alex Clare’s album – LOVE!!! Thanks, M!

Oh, so the title..I was describing my day to my mom and said something along the lines of “Yeah, I spent the whole day squatting like a chicken. But chickens don’t squat, do they?”

I am thankful for: aromatherapy.

Take A Time..

DAY 223

“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” – Confucius

“Hard work without talent is a shame, but talent without hard work is a tragedy.” – Robert Half

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” ~Einstein

“Without a sense of urgency, desire loses its value.” – Jim Rohn

My day in a nutshell! Complete with another fabulous yoga sesh at Bull City Yoga!! Meet me there next Friday at 5:45!

I found something quite enlightening this evening. I purchased a book on Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu when I was taking my world religions course. Flipping through the pages tonight, I noticed one particular passage that stood out. It is this:

If you understand others you are smart.
If you understand yourself you are illuminated.
If you overcome others you are powerful.
If you overcome yourself you have strength.
If you know how to be satisfied you are rich.
If you can act with vigor, you have a will.
If you don’t lose your objectives you can be long-lasting.

If you die without loss, you are eternal.

I am thankful for: the breath.

The Little Tiny Ducky..

DAY 222

“You must not only aim right, but draw the bow with all your might.” – Henry David Thoreau

“To create something you must be something.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“To change one’s life; Start immediately. Do it flamboyantly. No exceptions.” – William James

“We are what we think. With our thoughts we make our world.” – Buddha

When I sling my yoga mat bag across my chest, I not-so-secretly feel like Katniss Everdeen. – Jasmine Star

“Respond intelligently even to unintelligent treatment.” – Lao Tsu

There were so many children around today! All sorts of kid-friendly things were around: cartoons, books, bikes, the park, lawn chairs, moth-chasing, water slides, & Play-Doh! To top it off, we were introduced to newborn & infant massage tonight in class. I’m so looking forward to this! Working with tiny humans would be the bees knees. My group named our little one J.T. We still aren’t totally settled on what the initials stand for.

I am thankful for: my new mattress!!!!!!! (it totally called for that many exclamation points)

Who Driveth Beside You?..

DAY 221

“If you’re not sure where you are going, you’re liable to end up someplace else.” – Robert F. Mager

“When we see men of a contrary character, we should turn inwards and examine ourselves.” – Confucius

“Don’t let yesterday use up too much of today.” ~Cherokee Proverb

“All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” – Pablo Picasso

“A man with no imaginations has no wings.” – Muhammad Ali

On my way to class tonight, I snapped the photo for today. The sky was covered with one of the most gorgeous cloudscapes I’ve noticed. There were darker clouds in the foreground back-lit by the sun. I was at a stoplight when I clicked the button, only to turn slightly, look in my rear-view mirror and notice the guy in the car behind me smiling. I was glad to provide a moment’s entertainment, but it got me thinking. We never truly know what anyone else is going through. And we really have no clue about drivers in cars around us. I always find it gratifying and a simple act of kindness to be kind to fellow drivers (no matter how uh, silly they may act).

I am thankful for: fluffy skies & waves of kindness.

See You In The Window..

DAY 220

“Love yourself. Love the world. There is no power stronger than love.”- Deepak Chopra

“Perfectionism is the enemy of creation, as extreme self-solitude is the enemy of well-being.” ~John Updike

One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation. – Arthur Ashe

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.” – Winston Churchill

“Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them . A desire, a dream, a vision.” – Muhammed Ali

Another day with the mission of being silly – check! The semi-serious section of the day begins in about T minus 2 hours. I’m quite proud of myself – I managed to sleep in a bit, be silly all day, do yoga when I got home, make dinner for myself, & spend time with my pets. I’m like scary productive today!

Happy lighthouse day!

I am thankful for: beacons of light..whatever form they may take.

PS: the title of the post was a quote from a lady at a drive-thru today. I find inspiration everywhere!

If I’m A Kid, You’re A Kid..

DAY 219

You are how you choose to be. – Tara Stiles

“Be not simply good; be good for something.” – Henry David Thoreau

“You have brains in your head. Your feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.” – Dr. Seuss

A day at the museum & lots of silly time! There were googley eyes, owls, snakes, phones, origami, building blocks, tornado-maker, geodes, & me talking like an Italian dude! That last one got most of the laughs today.

I am thankful for: smiles!

At The “Ding”, Turn The Page..

DAY 218

I know it is, because when I look at you, I can feel it. And I look at you, and I’m home. –Dory (Finding Nemo)

“To lose patience is to lose the battle.” – Mahatma Gandhi

“My interest is in the future because I am going to spend the rest of my life there.” – Charles Kettering

“I restore myself when I’m alone.” – Marilyn Monroe

“Pull the string, and it will follow wherever you wish. Push it, and it will go nowhere at all.” – Dwight Eisenhower

Reading has always been a huge part of my life. When I was little, my parents read to me. As I grew older, books became my place of refuge, camaraderie, & escape. Nothing has lasted so long in my life as my love of books & stories.

I love that I can share that with the tiny humans I get to spend my days with! They love stories. Each has his or her own preference, of course, but there is that hunger for knowledge, adventure, & escape!

Today, while looking for books for the little ones, I got a little piece of my childhood back. And I’m not just referring to the part of the day that involved testing out mattresses and bouncing on beds. My mommy gave me a Dr. Seuss book!! One that I’ve recently become even more fond of – Oh, the Places You’ll Go! I couldn’t be happier!! I also got The Little Red Caboose and Scuffy the Tugboat. Even my dad lit up when I showed him Scuffy!

I am thankful for: the gift of reading. alone and with others.

This is a song that’s been popping up a lot this week for me – I hope you enjoy!
