Laughing Tears..

DAY 237

“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” – Anatole France

“Great effort springs naturally from a great attitude.” – Pat Riley

“Hope is the feeling that the feeling you have isn’t permanent.” ~Joan Kerr

“The key to the ability to change is a changeless sense of who you are, what you are about and what you value.” – Stephen R. Covey

“It’s amazing what you can do if you just try really, really hard.” -The Buried Life

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.” – Winston Churchill

“We are livin’ the high life. Without the high. So…I guess we’re just livin’ life.” – Me

“He was in the middle of the road, so I said ‘mufasa’!” – Meredith

For those of you who may not have the awesome chance to hang out with me, I laugh. A lot. To the point where I’m crying, “talking” in a high-pitched voice, and just generally being a goofball. Tonight, world, I had one of those nights. Meredith and I were on our way home when there was a gentleman in the road, walking at a snail’s pace. Long story short, we ended up with the Mufassa quote! The laughter continued and there were tears, an ab workout, and sore throats. Totally worth it! I love having laugh attacks. It’s good for the soul!

When we arrived home, we saw my brother who proceeded to ask what we had been recreationally tapping into. Nothing, I can assure you. My colorful way of answering, however, resulted in the quote above about living the high life without the high. Sometimes I make myself laugh too!

It’s Friday!!! Which meant – yoga! And dinner, followed by dessert. Yum! Yoga was amazing. I needed it badly and Bull City Yoga was there to save the day! I love classes with Ali. We proceeded to have dinner at Bali Hai (awesome place!) and dessert at Francesca’s on Ninth Street.

Interesting finds:

All over the triangle, there are colorful cows. Check out the link to learn more about the moo-vement. : )

Body Mind Spirit Expo..http://www.bmse.net/bmseweb/
The expo is back in town this weekend! I missed it last time they were in town, but not this time! Oh no sir. Hope to see you there!

Remember this kissing couple..http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/06/17/vancouver-riot-kissing-couple-eyewitness.html
A few years ago, there were riots in Canada following a hockey game. This couple was photographed kissing in the middle of the street. I never really read or heard about the actual events that unfolded, so I found this article that my special (someone) shared with me interesting and very sweet.

I am thankful for: colorful cows and beautiful sunsets.

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” ~Einstein

“Without a sense of urgency, desire loses its value.” – Jim Rohn

Restful.

Relaxing.

Grounding.

My day in a nutshell! Complete with another fabulous yoga sesh at Bull City Yoga!! Meet me there next Friday at 5:45!

I found something quite enlightening this evening. I purchased a book on Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu when I was taking my world religions course. Flipping through the pages tonight, I noticed one particular passage that stood out. It is this:

33

If you understand others you are smart.
If you understand yourself you are illuminated.
If you overcome others you are powerful.
If you overcome yourself you have strength.
If you know how to be satisfied you are rich.
If you can act with vigor, you have a will.
If you don’t lose your objectives you can be long-lasting.

If you die without loss, you are eternal.

I am thankful for: the breath.

See You In The Window..

DAY 220

“Love yourself. Love the world. There is no power stronger than love.”- Deepak Chopra

“Perfectionism is the enemy of creation, as extreme self-solitude is the enemy of well-being.” ~John Updike

One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation. – Arthur Ashe

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.” – Winston Churchill

“Champions aren’t made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them . A desire, a dream, a vision.” – Muhammed Ali

Another day with the mission of being silly – check! The semi-serious section of the day begins in about T minus 2 hours. I’m quite proud of myself – I managed to sleep in a bit, be silly all day, do yoga when I got home, make dinner for myself, & spend time with my pets. I’m like scary productive today!

Happy lighthouse day!

I am thankful for: beacons of light..whatever form they may take.

PS: the title of the post was a quote from a lady at a drive-thru today. I find inspiration everywhere!

I Am Not A Flashdrive..

DAY 216

“The journey is the reward.” – Chinese Proverb

That’s the story of you and me. From the very beginning, we were meant to be. –Tigger

“If pleasures are greatest in anticipation, just remember that this is also true of troubles.” ~Elbert Hubbard

“You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

..The memorable quote from yoga tonight that I almost forgot! Luckily, I keep my handy dandy MerMer as my Friday night date! Seriously though, you are not a flashdrive! Think about it – we don’t need to hold on to data (things, people, emotions, events) as much as we do in our day-to-day lives. It makes life much easier when you are able to see things, hear them, acknowledge them and then proceed accordingly, but not keep any attachment to them.

Tonight’s pictures..are from the moments before class. : ) Evidence of what sillies Mer & I are when you leave us in a yoga studio before class begins. Ha!

I am thankful for: the Om. There is a beginning, middle, & end to all. Appreciate the journey.

B.

It Ran Out Of My Head..

DAY 212

“When we accept tough jobs as a challenge and wade into them with joy and enthusiasm, miracles can happen.” – Arland Gilbert

“Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” – J.K. Rowling

“Like what you do. If you don’t like it, do something else.” – Paul Harvey

“Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.” – Vernon Law

“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.” – Albert Einstein

First thing this morning, I wanted to make sure I woke up & did yoga. It’s something I’m trying to make sure I do on a daily basis, if only for a little bit! How did I ensure that I’d do it this morning? A Post-It of course! And it worked! I did about 10 minutes of a morning routine from Yoga Cures by Tara Stiles. The boys then wanted to workout this morning shortly after they woke up! We hit the P90x at their request until they were tuckered out. I enjoy being active & miss it when I’m not!

My Post-It to myself helped me to remember yoga, but there wasn’t one around to help R remember what he was going to do next today. Hence, the title for today’s post. : ) R: “It ran out of my head!”

I am thankful for: exercise. yoga.

The Way Back From Lala Land..

DAY 208

“Inspiration grows into full-scale creation through persistence and imagination.” – Carol Lloyd

If camera lenses are round, why are all the pictures square ? – @LifeQuestions

“Believe and act as if it were impossible to fail.” – Charles Kettering

You know you’ve been to Lala Land a few times! It’s ok to admit it. Throughout most of the day, I caught J&R zoning out & taking unplanned trips to Lala Land. Too funny! But the minute I brought up this Lala Land, they looked at me as if I was from another planet. “What’s Lala Land?” I think I’m the oldest 21 year old I know, but I’m just beginning to realize it! I know many pop culture references from before I was born & I shock people with my knowledge (or use it to entertain myself and my mom on roadtrips!). My kind is a rare breed, but I’ll take it! And own it. Which brings me to the pictures I found in one of the books we read today..on being different.

I am thankful for: diversity & quirks.

PS: YOGA TOMORROW!!! SO EXCITED!!! You should join me in the Bull City! http://bullcityyoga.com/

B.

I was running so ahead of schedule this AM that I had time to stop for a photo of the morningness!

‘Twas me yesterday.

‘Tis me most days.

Write It Like You Mean It..

DAY 206

“Anything is achievable. Be positive, be enthusiastic, and project confidence.” – Sarah Doukas

“Enjoy what you do and take pride in it because then you will do it well.” – Charlie Bigham

“Why be ordinary when you can be extraordinary?” – Rory Byrne

“Be too busy to have time for regrets.” – Angela Wright

“Go in the direction of your FEARS for it will grow the underdeveloped part of your soul” – Jasmine Star [her yoga instructor]

Feel acceptance for all others as your equal, without judgment or prejudice. – Deepak Chopra

if you have a question, you also have the answer. – Tara Stiles

Allow me to first say, “This is Sparta!” What? It’s in the spirit of the Triangle’s Water Fight starting this Friday. See here about details & such! I’m pretty excited about it, even though I’m not sure if I’ll be able to participate. How cool is that though?

I do want to seriously thank Tamara Lackey and Jasmine Star for both taking the time to read and comment on my post yesterday. It meant  a lot to me!!

I wrote my review for Bull City Yoga on Yelp today! Check it out here, along with several others! I hope you take the opportunity to go explore all that this studio, teacher, and practice can do for you. I’m sincerely grateful for the studio and Ali, as well as the girl time now blocked out for Friday nights! Not only did I write a review today for the studio, but I also received such a sweet and unexpected hand-written card from Ali today via snail mail! I love snail mail. It makes me feel so special! Thank you, Ali, for taking the time to send such a thoughtful note! I’m so very glad I found your studio and that you’re the instructor!

Now for the pictures..
Dr. Seuss is awesome. There, I said it. I found yet another passage from one of his works that struck me in such an uplifting way. “I think that I just wish to be like ME.”
Looky! Ali sealed the envelope with an Om! Love it, love it, love it.
It was a rainy afternoon in the Triangle. Complete with power outages and smack-you-in-your-face rain. Once I made it safely to the cover of my car, I captured a few raindrops hanging out on my driver’s side window.

I am thankful for: sharing kind thoughts and words of encouragement. Also, snail mail.

Praying Mantis Says Hi..

DAY 202

“To be able to look back upon one’s life in satisfaction is to live twice.” – Kahlil Gibran

I don’t much care for grumpy people – Yasmeen

Friday has been an absolute blast of happiness. I got to hang with some super cool peoples all day!

My evening was probably the high point of my week because I got to do yoga!!! I truly truly love it. Like, look forward to it like a puppy begging for a bacon strip happy when I get to do yoga. And going to Bull City Yoga has made me love it that much more. Only 2 classes in and I totally feel like I have better posture, I am paying much more attention to my breathing and where I hold tension (theme of 2012), & am doing more to make myself feel comfortable and not strain when I’m standing, sitting, whatever. I could go on about it forever, but I’ll simply say that I LOVE Ali & her teaching style. The classes have been amazingness bottled up into 1 hour and 15 minutes. Also, You should so go to a class!!

For dinner, M and I went to Guglhupf on 15-501. I’ve been there only twice before, but never for dinner. The food was delicious! And they have like the best fresh lemonade ever! For serious. M & I felt a bit under-dressed in our post-workout attire, but didn’t really care after being seated. : )

On our way to Tutti Fruitti for fro-yo – yes, we totally dragged Durham date night out until the rainy end – I discovered I had a new friend in the car. I think I’ve decided to name the little grasshopper Jiminy. If only I could find his new hiding place… I think that might happen early tomorrow morning. Ha!

I am thankful [to be]: awesomely stretched, strengthened, more in-tune with my body, more centered, & prepared!

Oh Good Fun..

DAY 195

“I am where I need to be. Everything around me includes and hides the sacred.” – Mary Mrozowsk

“Don’t go into business to get rich. Do it to enrich people. It will come back to you.” – Stew Leonard

“To be fond of learning is near to wisdom.” – Confucius

“Man is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play.” – Heraclitus

“People do not change, they are merely revealed.” – Anne Enright

A morning with trains, a few Christmas songs, & snack time. Followed by athletic clothes shopping, lunch, & rest time. But the best time of today was courtesy of Alison at Bull City Yoga, Beyu Cafe, & Mad Hatters! I had such a great evening out with M!

Bull City Yoga was awesome!! It was my first yoga class in “public”. And it was fantabulous! I was actually familiar with more of the poses than I thought. Afterward, I felt energized, centered, and very happy! I would absolutely recommend Alison & her studio. First off – it’s so stinkin’ adorable. And secondly – the class was great for a range of practice “levels” – beginner, intermediate, & hard core yoga peeps. Thirdly – I mean really, she has great design taste and she makes up words like me! “Tinily” is so in my vocab now. Ooh – another awesome point goes to the studio being located next to a photography studio!!! I could see the reflectors & their lighting set up. Eep! I know I’m stoppin’ by again soon!

Beyu Cafe was the next stop with M. We split a margherita pizza & Thai veggies. We may have even grabbed drinks there! Everything was delicious! Atmosphere was great & our server had excellent recommendations. Definitely headed back there again! I can now officially say I’ve had a cookie from Mad Hatters. And may I also say, yum!

Tomorrow is my first day of clinic!! I’m a bit nervous, but moreso excited. For my first shift, I’ll be participating in 10 minute sports massages at the Biggest Loser casting call. I feel like it’s going to be a great first clinic experience! After which I get to spend the better part of my weekend with one of the coolest kids ever who I haven’t seen in like a month or so! Woohoo! Any other fun plans out there for this weekend?

I am thankful for: scented eye pillows with their own little baby eye pillow cases! (Found exclusively at Bull City Yoga!)

PS: Title courtesy of M’s quote tonight. : )

Weee Cola..

DAY 194

“A man with no imaginations has no wings.” – Muhammad Ali

“I love the man who can smile in trouble, gather strength from distress and grow brave by reflection.” – Thomas Paine

“A person who won’t read has no advantage over one who can’t read.” – Mark Twain

“Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop” ~ Ansel Adams

I woke early this morning – my day off. There were many little things I wanted to get done. And I did. They included, but were not limited to: screaming at a poor grasshopper on my car window, laughing, giggling, singing whilst driving, & walking in on a class in-progress. Successfull day, kids!

Bull City Yoga opened today! Yay! I literally found out about this place yesterday and have been completely obsessed and excited about the idea of the studio. I don’t know if it’s the rustic building, the fact that it’s something new and different, the awesome instructor I had a Twitter convo with this AM, or that it’s yoga. Uh, hello, I’m a little in love with the practice. But like, a lot. I’m going to test the waters (literally – the studio will be at like 80 or 90 degrees and we’ll be doing yoga, which equals = sweat) tomorrow! I begged M to go with me and she graciously agreed. We’re in for quite an experience!

I’m pretty sure we have some major grocery store’s produce section in our home right now. My mom (and I) went produce-crazy today. We have pineapple, apples, pears, peaches, nectarines, bananas, strawberries, watermelon, avocados, tomatoes.. You need fruits or veggies? We’ve got ’em!

Mad Libs – Oh how I love this game! And playing it over the phone some how manages to make it that much funnier. One of the combos created was “weee cola”. Purely hilarious! Laughter absolutely followed. Think Riccola, but with the “weee” from the Geico commercial with the pig. Yeah. Are you dying with giggles yet?

I am thankful for: my education.
